Seven Colorado cities were named in the Top 10 Most Technologically Advanced Cities in the US by the Center for Digital Government. Aurora, Colorado Springs, Lakewood, Westminster, Arvada, Pueblo and Boulder all made Top 10 lists based on population size.
Boulder topped a list of "America´s Smartest Cities," based on the percentage of the population with at least a bachelor´s degree, according to a survey posted at Forbes.com. The Fort Collins/Loveland metro area finished seventh on the list.
Denver International Airport was the 6th-busiest airport in the US based on the number of 2006 flights, according to the FAA. By number of passengers, DIA ranks fifth through September. With 3.95 million travelers, October "06" was the 18th straight month setting a passenger record.
Denver was the 6th-most popular travel destination in 2006 according to the Orbitz Insider Index. The top five were Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando and Los Angeles.
Colorado´s population growth rate increased through the first half of 2006, moving us from the 11th-fastest growing state in 2005 to eighth in 2006. Our 4.75 million residents represent a 1.9% annual increase. Arizona, Nevada and Idaho are the three fastest-growing states.
Colorado personal income rose 1.2% in Q3 2006 ? 44th among all states.
The Center for Women´s Business Research ranks Colorado 15th among all states for women-owned businesses. Our 223,347 businesses half or majorityowned by women employ 250,731 people and generate over $37 billion in sales.
Colorado companies have exported more than $6.64 billion worth of goods through October ? a 19% increase over a year ago and the largest in at least 10 years. The semiconductor sector is up 80%, chilled meats are up 75% and the medical-related products sector is up 29%.
