In 1891 the city of Aurora  was founded by the name of Fletcher, Colorado. However, in 1907 the city name was changed to Aurora.  The city motto is "Gateway to the Rockies".  There are around 310,000 residents in the 144 square miles of city area.  Aurora adjoins with Denver's eastern boundary.  The eastern suburb of Aurora became Colorado´s third-largest city during the 1990's, a period of immense growth in many areas of Colorado.  Aurora has a diverse economic base of federal government, hi-tech, light manufacturing and  research and development job opportunities. The city is also the new site of the
University of Colorado Health Sciences Center located at the former Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. The Anschuts Medical Campus will add 3.4 million squard feet of education, research and patient care to Aurora at a total cost of 1.5 billion dollars.Medical Government agencies, new home builders, commercial and retail developers are investing heavly in Aurora.  The cost advantages in Aurora make it ripe for development.

Housing in Aurora includes apartments, condominiums, townhomes and single family homes.  The starting price for a home in the Aurora area is $120,000. However homes do reach as high as the low $800,000 range.  There are only a handful of homes on the market in Aurora at any one time from the $500,000 up to the $800,000 price range though. Heather Gardens is the region's largest retirement community with prices ranging between $210,000 to the low $300,000's. Future growth of 13,000 residences is planned for the the former Lowry Bombing Range. This area is between East Quincy Ave. to Yale Avenue and west of Watkins Road.  Over 26- acres will be alloted for commercial development including a regional town center. Light Rail Service, linking Aurora to downtown Denver and Denver International Airport is expected by 2006-2008. Presently, RTD busses are prevalent and I -70 offers access to downtown. E-470 and Pena Boulevard offer direct access to DIA .  I-225 and E-470 link residents to the technological centers like the Denver Tech Center and the Inverness business park near southern Aurora.
