Cherry Hills Village covers nearly six and half square acres of land. The city has virtually no commercial zoning. Extensive shopping opportunities are, however, provided to the 6,000 residents in all  nearby communities. Cherry Hills is situated only six miles south of downtown Denver and adjoins the northern border of Greenwood Village. Interstate I-25 is quickly accessible to reach nearby employment centers.                                       
 
Schools:                                                                       
The local school districts that serve Cherry Hills are Littleton Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District. (see sports note below). Both districts offer some of the best public education in the Denver-Metro Area. Cherry Creek School District, viewed by some as the best public education in the state, has a long and stable history of serving its residents with top-notch K-12 educational services. The Cherry Creek High School system continues to have among the highest ACT and SAT  test scores in the state every year and sends 93% of its graduates to college. Student test scores in both school districts rank well above the Colorado and National averages.

In 2004, Greenwood Elementary School was ranked by the School Accountability Report "cut" scores as the 2nd best in the State. Challenge Middle School ranked second and Cherry Creek High School was ranked forth in the State by the same report. Littleton  Academy ranked 5th for elementary and middle school.

Saint Mary's Academy and Kent Denver both offer private schooling within Cherry Hills Village. The Kent Denver School celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2002 and continues its traditional Kent School for Girls, founded in 1922, and the Denver Country Day School for boys, founded in 1953.

Cherry Creek High School (Greenwood Village, CO) was ranked No. 5 among the Top 25 High School Athletic Programs by Sports Illustrated.

Criteria used to evaluate the top athletic programs "emphasized all-around excellence during the last 10 years and included state titles won and college athletes produced," according to the May 16, 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated.

Here's what Sports Illustrated had to say about Cherry Creek High School: "While the Bruins have won 162 state titles in everything from pompon's to football, they are best known for their dominance in tennis. Over a 28-year span, from 1972 to 2000, the Boy's team won 316 consecutive dual matches, a national record for that sport. Cherry Creek is also a power in girls' swimming, with 21 state titles. As a senior in 1991, five-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Amy Van Dyken won two individual state titles (she also won a pair as a junior) and helped the Bruins earn a state team championship. Another famous alum, Houston Astros closer Brad Lidge, led Cherry Creek to a state baseball title as a senior in 1995."

Since the founding of Cherry Hills in 1945, there has been a constant effort to maintain large residential lots and a private, rural atmosphere.  Typically, one to ten acre lots accommodate luxurious single-family homes and estate properties.

Throughout the years, distinctive upper-end custom home subdivisions like Glenmoor, Cherry Hills Farm, Devonshire, Buell Mansion and Charlou have also been developed.Many of the area neighborhoods are linked by the tree-filled Highline Canal trail system, which began more than 100 years ago.
