Ken Caryl Ranch: One of the most desirable areas in the entire metro Denver, Ken Caryl Ranch is known for its seclusion, total beauty and its unique setting. Once home to the Ute and Woodland Indians in the early 1800's, Ken Caryl Ranch was eventually purchased by John Shaffer, the owner of the Rocky Mountain Newspaper at the time. He built the 8,000 sq. ft. Manor House for his family in 1914 at a cost of $100,000. Today the Manor House is a landmark restaurant. The six bedroom, four-bath Manor House entertained worldwide dignitaries and presidents including Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. The ranch was named after Shaffer's two sons, Kent and Carroll. In all, Shaffers cattle ranch covered over 28,000 acres of land. Deer, turkeys, coyotes, grouse, elk and the occasional mountain lion and black bear have been sighted within the Ken-Caryl Ranch, 6,000-acre open space area.
Recreation: The community center in Ken Caryl Ranch offers a state-of-the-art wellness center with aerobic areas, two racquetball courts, a large outdoor swimming pool, wading pool, four indoor and six outdoor, lighted tennis courts, a weight room, nursery, billiard tables and rooms available for private parties. There is also an equestrian center with trails for horses. Residents will also find soccer and baseball facilities, parks, playgrounds, greenbelts and many hiking trails only minutes from their house.
